To make the most of this trip, there are a lot of things I will be doing. One of the most deciding factors for the amount in which I experience (and I believe this to be true for everyone) is my attitude. One can be in the mindset that they are going to a place to see the monuments and nothing else. They will sit on the bus or airplane they are on and be interested only in what song is playing on their I-Pod, or when they are going to finally get their complementary peanuts. They just simply want to get to wherever they are going. These are the people I feel sorry for; they are missing the entire reason for traveling. I do not intend to have this attitude at all. I want to be fully open to everything I will get to see. Even the small things, I intend to make note of. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I want to be able to remember everything that I got to do. A lot of times in our lives, our eyes are looking but are not really seeing the beautiful things before them. We are just going through the motions and are not really aware of what is going on around us. On this trip I want to be alert, awake, and see everything around me. To see and truly experience all of these things, hopefully the trip will not fly by. I intend to “stop and smell the flowers”, and enjoy life though the amazing encounters I will have. By keeping this optimistic attitude, opening my eyes, and staying excited (which will not be a problem!), I will get more out of the experience.

Before the trip, we are doing many things to prepare ourselves. All of the plans and lessons we have are making the experience even better for me. I’m learning the culture and history of China, and by doing this I understand why and how the things I will see are there. We are also learning how to say a few things in Chinese, this will be very important to our experiences because not only will we be able to see the places, but we will be able to talk to the people there. This communication will make the trip more memorable.

These are a few things that I plan to do before and during the trip to make it more extraordinary. I would like to remember every aspect of this trip and revisit my adventure in the future. As a result of this I will be doing many things to try to make this trip the best I can.
I'm glad you are focused on really getting the most of this experience. I think that many people, especially peers, might try and downplay the trip you are about to take. They will never know how amazing it is going to be, and some people will never realize how amazing traveling somewhere out of your comfort zone can be because they won't ever do it. I encourage you to surround yourself with people who think like you do! You will have no problem keeping that positive attitude and excitement! Right now, as you think about the trip, what part of the trip do you continue to daydream about? Great Wall? Shanghai? Hong Kong?
ReplyDeleteI’m constantly daydreaming about going… I can’t wait! I will find myself thinking about China all the time; while doing homework, reading, listening to music, you name it! I’ve been thinking about every aspect of this trip, however the main ones are the Great Wall, the Terra Cotta Warriors, and what the cities will look like (well that… and the food! I mean who doesn’t like to think about new food to try?!). I will end up watching a movie, seeing a commercial, or even just talking to people, and something about China will come up... Then I’ll get all excited and say “I’m going there!” Oh my goodness! I’m so excited! :)
